To understand how to update the JV-1010, you first need to appreciate its design philosophy. The JV-1010 is, at its core, a streamlined JV-2080. It packs the same 64-voice polyphony and core synthesis engine into a 1U high, half-rackspace enclosure. To keep the cost low, Roland made some compromises, most notably replacing the 2080's detailed LCD screen with a simple 3-character LED display and including only a single expansion slot. The module also relies on an external 9V DC power supply, though its integrated computer interface (supporting Mac, PC-1, and PC-2) remains a vintage convenience.
